The end of the 3G era: Kyivstar completely shuts down outdated technology
Mobile operator Kyivstar has officially announced the complete shutdown of its 3G network. This decision makes the company the first among Ukrainian telecom operators to fully abandon this technology for mass use.
3G technology appeared in Ukraine many years ago and was a real breakthrough for mobile internet at the time. However, with the development of modern standards such as 4G (LTE) and 5G, the outdated connection has become less efficient and slower. The operator decided to reallocate the frequencies previously used for 3G in favor of faster and more stable networks.
For most subscribers, the changes will go unnoticed, as modern smartphones automatically switch to 4G. However, owners of very old phone models that do not support the new standards will have to upgrade their devices to stay connected and use mobile internet.
Abandoning 3G will allow the operator to improve coverage quality and increase data transmission speeds for its clients. This is an important step in the modernization of Ukrainian infrastructure, which aligns with global trends in the telecommunications sector.
