New EU restrictions: how conditions for the Ukrainian steel industry have changed
As of July 1, the European Union has introduced new rules for steel imports. These changes directly affect Ukrainian producers who actively export their products to the European market.
According to the new rules, the EU has nearly halved the annual quotas for duty-free steel imports. This means that Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises will be able to supply significantly less product to European countries without additional financial costs than before.
Furthermore, steel shipments exceeding the established volumes are now subject to a 50% duty. Such conditions significantly complicate exports for Ukrainian companies that are trying to maintain operations during the war.
Experts note that metallurgy is one of the key sectors of the Ukrainian economy. Therefore, any restrictions in foreign markets could negatively impact company revenues and the country's overall export performance.
Currently, Ukrainian producers and government officials are analyzing the situation to find ways to adapt to the new requirements of the European market. Future developments will depend on how quickly the industry can adjust to the updated EU trade rules.
