Human Rights Commissioner uncovers serious problems in Ukrainian shelters
The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, has released the results of a large-scale inspection of protective structures across the country. According to him, the majority of the inspected facilities have significant flaws that prevent them from being used as safe places during air raid alerts.
During the inspection, specialists focused on the accessibility of shelters for the public, their technical condition, and the availability of necessary conditions for people to stay for extended periods. The results were disappointing: many premises remain locked, are not properly equipped, or are in a condition that threatens the safety of citizens.
Dmytro Lubinets emphasized that ensuring access to safe shelters is a direct responsibility of local authorities. He urged those responsible to immediately address the identified violations, as the lives and health of millions of Ukrainians, who suffer from enemy shelling every day, depend on the condition of these structures.
Currently, relevant reports with recommendations for improving the situation have already been submitted to local government bodies. It is expected that a follow-up inspection will be conducted in the near future to ensure that the necessary measures have been taken to rectify the situation and provide proper protection for the population.
