EU agrees to allocate 6.6 billion euros to Ukraine to strengthen defense
The European Union has officially agreed on the terms for providing Ukraine with financial assistance in the amount of 6.6 billion euros. These funds will be allocated through the European Peace Facility, which specializes in supporting the military capabilities of partner countries.
This was announced by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas. According to her, this decision is an important step toward ensuring stable support for Ukraine amid the ongoing war. The funding will help the Ukrainian army strengthen its defense capabilities and more effectively counter challenges on the front line.
The funds from the European Peace Facility are directed toward the procurement of military equipment, ammunition, and personnel training. The allocation of such a significant sum confirms the European Union's intention to remain a reliable ally of Ukraine and to continue providing necessary assistance until a just peace is achieved.
This decision is part of a broader EU strategy regarding security in Europe. In addition to financial support, European leaders continue to work on strengthening sanctions against the aggressor and developing their own defense-industrial complex to ensure long-term stability in the region.
It is expected that the process of transferring the funds will begin in the near future. The Ukrainian government is already preparing plans for the effective use of these resources for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which will allow for the strengthening of the protection of critical infrastructure and the territorial integrity of the state.
