Ukraine plans to change taxation rules for parcels from abroad
The Verkhovna Rada Committee of Ukraine has supported an updated draft law concerning the taxation rules for international parcels. This is the third attempt by lawmakers to regulate this issue. The main goal of the changes is to make the process of receiving goods from abroad more transparent and to adapt Ukrainian legislation to European standards.
According to the new proposals, parcels between individuals with a value not exceeding 45 euros will be exempt from taxes. An important condition is that such shipments must be non-commercial, meaning they must be gifts rather than commercial purchases. This innovation is intended to make life easier for Ukrainians who receive aid or gifts from relatives and friends in other countries.
In addition, the draft law provides for the retention of certain benefits for specific categories of goods. This means that not all parcels will be subject to the general taxation rules. A detailed list of goods to which these benefits will apply will be determined after the final adoption of the document in parliament.
Currently, the draft law is being prepared for consideration in the session hall of the Verkhovna Rada. If the deputies vote in favor, the new rules will take effect after the document is signed by the president. This decision is an important step toward streamlining customs procedures and supporting citizens who use the services of international postal carriers.
