Ukraine plans to optimize patient hospitalization system
Recently, healthcare experts released data regarding the efficiency of hospital bed utilization in Ukraine. According to the analysis results, about 38% of hospitalizations in the country may be unjustified. This means that a significant portion of patients are admitted to hospitals without an acute medical need.
The most critical situation is observed in general therapy departments. Specialists note that up to 65% of "bed-days" in these departments are redundant. This creates additional strain on the medical system and budget funds that could be directed toward more important areas of treatment.
Experts emphasize that modern medicine should focus on outpatient treatment whenever possible. Many procedures and examinations that previously required a hospital stay can now be performed without 24-hour supervision by medical staff. Changing the approach to hospitalization will help make the healthcare system more modern and cost-effective.
Currently, the Ministry of Health is working on implementing new standards for providing care. It is expected that optimizing the hospitalization process will improve the quality of medical services for those patients who truly require inpatient treatment.
