The Vatican attempts to facilitate the return of Ukrainian children and prisoners
Pope Francis continues his diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving humanitarian issues arising from the Russian aggression against Ukraine. The Vatican has officially announced that Cardinal Matteo Zuppi has been sent to Russia to conduct negotiations.
The primary goal of the Cardinal's visit is to discuss the return of Ukrainian children who were illegally taken to the territory of the Russian Federation. This issue is one of the most important for the Ukrainian side, as it concerns the fates of thousands of minor citizens of Ukraine.
In addition to the issue of returning children, Cardinal Zuppi's mission is also focused on the exchange of prisoners of war. The Vatican is attempting to act as a mediator to accelerate the process of releasing Ukrainian defenders who are being held in Russian captivity.
Previously, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi had already visited Kyiv, where he held meetings with representatives of the Ukrainian government. These visits are part of a broader diplomatic strategy of the Holy See, aimed at finding paths to peace and alleviating the suffering of the civilian population.
Currently, the results of the negotiations in Moscow remain a subject of anticipation. The international community is closely monitoring the Vatican's actions, hoping that diplomatic pressure will help resolve humanitarian problems and bring Ukrainian citizens home.
