State Border Guard Service explains the situation regarding the mobilization of a dual citizen
A story has gained publicity in Ukraine regarding the mobilization of a 49-year-old man who had been living abroad for a long time. The man, who holds dual citizenship, had lived in Israel for the last 14 years but was conscripted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine while crossing the state border.
Representatives of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) provided official clarifications regarding this case. According to them, the man is a citizen of Ukraine, and therefore, the requirements of current legislation on mobilization and military registration apply to him.
According to the border guards, during a document check, it was discovered in the database that the citizen was wanted for violating military registration rules. This fact became the basis for his detention and subsequent referral to a territorial center for recruitment and social support.
This case reminds Ukrainians living abroad of the importance of complying with military registration rules. Even with the citizenship of another country, Ukrainian law views such individuals primarily as citizens of Ukraine who have corresponding obligations to the state.
Currently, the situation remains under the supervision of the relevant authorities. The government urges citizens who have been outside the country for a long time to check their status in the registries in advance to avoid misunderstandings when crossing the border.
