Ukraine lacks supported living services for people with disabilities

There is currently a significant shortage of supported living services in Ukraine for people who need them. According to the Ministry of Social Policy, the state provides such assistance to only about 400 people across the country.

Today, there are 80 service providers in Ukraine funded by the state budget. Although this system helps people with disabilities live more independently, the number of available places remains very low compared to the actual needs of society.

Deputy Minister of Social Policy Kostiantyn Koshelenko and other ministry representatives emphasize that the development of this sector is an important priority. Supported living allows people to avoid institutionalization and instead live in ordinary communities while receiving the necessary assistance from social workers.

The government plans to work on expanding the network of such services so that more citizens can receive support. This will help make the social system more modern and humane, ensuring decent living conditions for every Ukrainian, regardless of their health status.
