Ukraine appeals to ICAO over flight safety risks in Russian airspace
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has officially notified the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) of the serious risks associated with flights over Russian territory. Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha emphasized that the aggressor's actions pose a direct threat to the safety of civil aircraft and passengers worldwide.
According to the Ukrainian side, Russia is using its airspace for military purposes, including the launch of missiles and drones at Ukrainian territory. Such actions violate international flight safety rules and create unpredictable conditions for international airlines that continue to use Russian routes.
Ukraine is calling on ICAO to take decisive measures and strengthen oversight of compliance with safety regulations. Kyiv insists that the international community must pay attention to these violations, as the safety of civil aviation is a priority for all member states of the organization.
This appeal is part of broader diplomatic efforts by Ukraine aimed at isolating Russia on the international stage. Ukraine continues to work with partners to limit the aggressor's capabilities and ensure compliance with international law in all areas, including aviation security.
ICAO is currently reviewing the provided information. It is expected that this issue will be a subject of discussion at the organization's upcoming meetings, where representatives from various countries will be able to assess the level of threat to global civil aviation.
