Mikheil Saakashvili sang the Ukrainian national anthem during a court hearing
Former President of Georgia and Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili drew public attention during a recent court hearing. The politician, who is currently imprisoned, sang the national anthem of Ukraine right in the courtroom.
The incident occurred after judges forbade Saakashvili from appearing at the hearing in the uniform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The politician had planned to wear the military uniform to express his support for Ukrainian defenders, but was refused by court representatives.
Following the ban, Saakashvili decided to perform the Ukrainian anthem. He explained his actions by stating that he considers himself part of the Ukrainian struggle for independence. According to the politician, since Ukraine is currently waging a war against an aggressor, he, as its citizen, feels a duty to support the country in this way.
This event caused a wide resonance in the media. A video recording of Saakashvili singing the anthem quickly spread across social networks, becoming a subject of discussion among Ukrainians and the international community.
Mikheil Saakashvili currently remains in custody in Georgia, where several criminal cases have been opened against him. His state of health and conditions of detention remain a topic of constant discussion between the Georgian authorities and international organizations.
