Italy plans to test its newest Michelangelo Dome air defense system in Ukraine
Italy has announced plans to deploy and test its newest air defense system, dubbed Michelangelo Dome, in Ukraine for the first time. This is expected to take place by the end of 2026. This project will be an important step in cooperation between the two countries in the field of defense technology.
The Michelangelo Dome system is a modern development that combines the operation of powerful radars, high-precision missiles, and artificial intelligence. The main goal of this system is to effectively combat enemy unmanned aerial vehicles, which are frequently used for attacks on infrastructure.
The use of artificial intelligence allows the system to detect threats faster and react to them automatically. This significantly increases the chances of successfully intercepting drones, which is critically important for protecting the Ukrainian sky in the conditions of a full-scale war.
In addition to technical assistance, this step demonstrates Italy's support in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities. Testing such technology in real combat conditions will allow specialists to better understand the system's effectiveness and improve it for future use.
Currently, details regarding the deployment location and the amount of equipment are not being disclosed for security reasons. Ukrainian military personnel and Italian experts are continuing preparations for the implementation of this technology, which is intended to become a new tool in protecting the civilian population and important facilities of the country.
