Should you return to Kharkiv: the position of the city authorities
The question of returning home remains relevant for thousands of Ukrainians who left Kharkiv due to the full-scale war. Mayor Ihor Terekhov reported that there has recently been a trend of residents returning. Most often, people are arriving in the city from other regions of Ukraine, particularly the Kyiv region, as well as from abroad — primarily from Germany and Poland.
Despite the fact that the city is gradually coming back to life, the mayor urges Kharkiv residents to be cautious. Ihor Terekhov stated frankly that he does not consider the situation in Kharkiv to be safe. The city continues to be under the constant threat of enemy shelling, so every resident must independently assess the risks to their life and health.
Comparing Kharkiv with other large cities in Ukraine, the mayor emphasizes the specific nature of the security situation in the region. Its proximity to the front line makes Kharkiv vulnerable to attacks, which significantly distinguishes it from safer regions of the country. That is why the authorities are not giving unequivocal recommendations regarding a mass return.
For now, the decision to return remains a personal choice for each family. The city administration continues to work on restoring critical infrastructure, but the safety of citizens remains the top priority. Experts advise carefully monitoring official reports and air raid alerts before making a final decision.
