Veteran Support Specialists Trained in Psychological First Aid

The Ukrainian Red Cross Society organized special training for workers who assist veterans in communities. The main topic of the training was psychological first aid (PFA). This is an important step toward improving support for people returning from the front to civilian life.

The training was conducted by trainers from the "Mental Health and Psychosocial Support" program. Participants learned how to communicate correctly with veterans who have experienced severe stress or traumatic events. Specialists learned to recognize signs of psychological tension and provide rapid emotional assistance in difficult situations.

Today in Ukraine, there is a growing need for qualified assistants for veterans. Social workers in communities are often the first people former military personnel turn to after returning home. Therefore, knowledge of the basics of psychology helps specialists avoid conflicts and create a safe environment for the adaptation of defenders.

During the sessions, participants analyzed real cases and performed practical exercises. This helped them better understand the needs of not only the veterans themselves but also their families. The skills acquired will allow workers to coordinate assistance more effectively and, if necessary, refer people to specialized professionals.

The Ukrainian Red Cross plans to continue such activities across the country. Developing a psychosocial support system is one of the priorities for modern society. Thanks to such initiatives, veterans will be able to feel community support sooner and successfully return to peaceful life.
