Serbia has granted citizenship to former MP Vadym Novynskyi
Former Ukrainian Member of Parliament Vadym Novynskyi has received Serbian citizenship. This is reported by official sources, noting that the businessman utilized an expedited passport acquisition procedure.
According to the report, Serbian authorities granted citizenship to Novynskyi on the grounds that his person is of "national interest" to the country. This status allows foreigners to obtain a passport through a simplified process, bypassing standard requirements regarding the length of residency in the country.
Currently, Vadym Novynskyi is wanted in Ukraine. Law enforcement agencies suspect the businessman of involvement in activities that contradict the state's national security interests. Previously, a number of personal sanctions had been imposed against him.
Obtaining Serbian citizenship may complicate the process of holding the former MP accountable in Ukraine. At this moment, official Ukrainian authorities have not provided additional comments regarding how this decision will affect the course of criminal proceedings against the businessman.
