Lithuanian President criticizes UN over incorrect depiction of Ukraine's map
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has criticized the United Nations. The cause of his dissatisfaction was a new world map recently supported by the UN General Assembly. On this map, Crimea was depicted separately from the territory of Ukraine, which sparked outrage from the Lithuanian leader.
In September, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution aimed at updating the world map. The project organizers claimed that the new image was intended to more accurately reflect the actual areas of the continents and their proportions. However, the technical update led to a political scandal due to inaccuracies regarding state borders.
Gitanas Nausėda emphasized that such actions by the UN are unacceptable. He stressed that the international community must strictly adhere to the principles of Ukraine's territorial integrity. Any manipulation of the map where Crimea is separated from the Ukrainian state contradicts international law and supports the aggressor's narratives.
This incident has served as another reminder of the importance of international institutions paying close attention to issues of sovereignty. Ukraine and its partners continue to insist that Crimea is an integral part of Ukrainian territory, and any errors in the official documents of international organizations must be corrected immediately.
