Massive attempts to hack surveillance cameras recorded in Ukraine
Cybersecurity specialists from the company GreyNoise have warned of a danger to owners of surveillance cameras in Ukraine. According to the latest data, hackers have begun mass-scanning networks to find and compromise devices from the well-known brand Hikvision.
The reason for this activity is a critical vulnerability in the cameras' software that was previously known. Malicious actors are exploiting this technical weakness to gain remote access to the equipment. This allows them not only to view images from the cameras but also potentially to control the devices.
Experts emphasize that such attacks pose a serious threat to user privacy. Since cameras are often installed in private homes, offices, and business facilities, a data breach can have negative consequences for the safety of citizens.
To protect their devices, specialists advise Hikvision camera owners to immediately update their software to the latest version. It is also important to change default access passwords to more complex ones and check network settings to restrict unauthorized access to the cameras from the internet.
For now, the situation remains under the supervision of specialists. Users are advised to remain vigilant and monitor official announcements from the manufacturer regarding security patches.
