Italy and France Have Doubts About Entry Ban for Russian Military Personnel
The European Union continues to discuss new security measures and sanctions against Russia. One of the latest proposals is a total ban on entry into EU countries for former Russian military personnel who participated in the war. However, this issue has sparked serious debate among the bloc's members.
According to Bloomberg, Italy and France expressed their reservations regarding this initiative. These countries are not convinced that such a radical ban is the right step at this time. They are calling for more legal arguments and a detailed study of the potential consequences of such a decision for international relations.
The main goal of the proposal is to restrict access to Europe for people who were part of the occupying forces in Ukraine. Supporters of this idea believe that such a step will help increase the level of security within the European Union. They emphasize that individuals who participated in the aggression should not have the right to free movement through democratic countries.
On the other hand, representatives of Italy and France believe it is necessary to act with caution. They suggest carefully vetting each individual separately rather than imposing a blanket ban on all former soldiers without exception. In their view, it is important to maintain a certain balance between security and compliance with international norms.
Currently, EU countries are trying to find a compromise and develop a common position on this issue. Discussions will continue at upcoming meetings in Brussels. It is not yet known whether this ban will be adopted in its original form or if it will be modified to take into account the concerns of Rome and Paris.
