The fourth anniversary of the Kharkiv counteroffensive: how the Armed Forces of Ukraine changed the course of the war
September 6 marks four years since the beginning of the legendary Kharkiv offensive operation. In 2022, on this very day, the Defense Forces of Ukraine launched a large-scale counteroffensive, which became one of the most important stages in the fight for our state's independence.
Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi recalled these events, noting that at that time, Ukrainian soldiers were able to successfully break through the Russian military's defenses. Thanks to the professional actions and determination of our defenders, the Ukrainian army was able to liberate significant territories of the Kharkiv region that had been under occupation for a long time.
During this operation, Ukrainian units demonstrated high speed of advancement, liberating towns and villages one after another. In certain directions, the Defense Forces advanced 145 kilometers deep into occupied territories, which came as a surprise to the enemy and significantly weakened its positions on the northeastern front.
The success of the Kharkiv counteroffensive became a symbol of the resilience of the Ukrainian people and the professionalism of the military. The liberation of cities such as Izium, Balakliia, and Kupiansk restored hope to millions of Ukrainians and demonstrated to the whole world that the Ukrainian army is capable of effectively liberating its lands.
Today, we remember with gratitude the heroism of everyone who took part in this operation. This date remains an important page in the modern history of Ukraine, which inspires us to continue the fight until total victory.
