New "Ghosts of Shtetls" Tourist Route Launched on "Travel Ukraine" Platform
A new and engaging route titled "Ghosts of Shtetls" has been featured on the state platform "Travel Ukraine." This project is designed to introduce travelers to the rich history and culture of Jewish towns in Western Ukraine. The route helps preserve the memory of communities that were once an integral part of the region's life.
The new tourist path spans approximately 200 kilometers, passing through several historical towns in the Lviv region. The journey begins in Lviv and continues through Zhovkva, Velyki Mosty, Sheptytskyi, Sokal, and Belz. Each of these towns boasts unique architecture and fascinating legends, which are now more accessible to tourists.
The primary objective of the route is to showcase the architectural and cultural heritage of "shtetls." Shtetls are small towns where large Jewish populations resided until the mid-20th century. Today, tourists can visit ancient synagogues, market squares, and residential buildings that have preserved the spirit of the past and tell the stories of their former inhabitants.
The inclusion of this route on the "Travel Ukraine" platform increases its popularity among Ukrainians and international visitors alike. It promotes the development of domestic tourism and highlights the importance of preserving historical landmarks. Now, anyone can easily plan their journey using the detailed information and map available on the official website.
