Kyrylo Budanov speaks out against holding elections in Ukraine during the war
The head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence, Kyrylo Budanov, has expressed his position regarding the possibility of holding elections in Ukraine under martial law. According to him, organizing an electoral process during such a difficult period could pose a threat to the state's stability.
Budanov emphasized that holding elections during active hostilities is a dangerous step. He believes that this could lead to internal conflicts and a split in society, which would play into the enemy's hands. The state's main goal right now is the protection of territorial integrity and the safety of its citizens.
In the intelligence chief's opinion, democratic procedures require calm conditions, which currently do not exist due to constant shelling and threats from Russia. Any political struggle within the country could weaken the efforts of Ukrainians aimed at winning the war.
Budanov's statement has sparked widespread discussion in Ukrainian society. Politicians and experts continue to debate how to ensure the legitimacy of the government while simultaneously adhering to the security requirements dictated by wartime.
For now, the issue of elections remains open, but the position of representatives of the security and defense sectors remains unchanged: the number one priority for Ukraine remains defense and ending the war on terms favorable to our state.
