Ukraine Plans to Extend Martial Law and Mobilization for Another 90 Days
Ukraine is preparing to extend the period of martial law and general mobilization once again. This decision is a necessary step due to the ongoing full-scale war and the need for national defense. It is expected that the special legal regime will remain in effect for another three months.
The extension procedure typically begins with an initiative by the President of Ukraine. After the relevant decrees are signed, they must be reviewed and approved by the Verkhovna Rada. This will be yet another such decision since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, allowing state bodies to operate under wartime conditions.
The new term of martial law will likely last until early February 2025. This means that certain restrictions necessary to ensure the safety of citizens will continue to apply in the country. Additionally, the process of conscripting those liable for military service into the Armed Forces of Ukraine will officially continue.
General mobilization allows the state to effectively replenish army reserves and protect its territories. It is important for citizens to remember their duties and follow official announcements from the Ministry of Defense. Military registration remains mandatory for men of the appropriate age and certain categories of women.
The situation at the front remains difficult, so such measures are an important part of the country's defense strategy. The authorities urge Ukrainians to remain calm, be responsible, and use only verified sources of information. An official vote in parliament on this matter is expected in the near future.
