Early diagnosis program for rare diseases in infants is operating successfully in Ukraine
An expanded neonatal screening program continues to operate in Ukraine, helping to detect serious illnesses in children within their first days of life. Thanks to this examination, doctors have already diagnosed over a thousand cases of rare diseases in newborns across the country.
The essence of the program is that infants are tested for 21 genetic diseases. This allows pathologies to be detected even before the child shows any noticeable symptoms. Early diagnosis is extremely important, as it enables treatment to begin in a timely manner and significantly improves the child's quality of life in the future.
The screening procedure is carried out directly in maternity hospitals. Medical professionals take a blood sample from the infant, which is then sent to specialized laboratories for detailed analysis. Such a system allows for reaching a large number of children and ensuring they receive the necessary medical care at early stages.
The Ministry of Health emphasizes that timely detection of diseases saves lives and prevents the development of severe complications. The neonatal screening program is an important step in the development of Ukrainian medicine, aligning with modern European standards for pediatric healthcare.
