Executive Director of PEN Ukraine Maksym Sytnikov has joined the defense of Ukraine
Maksym Sytnikov, Executive Director of the non-governmental organization PEN Ukraine, has made the decision to join the ranks of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. He has become a serviceman with the Omega Special Purpose Center, which is part of the National Guard of Ukraine.
This was reported in official media announcements. For a long time, Maksym Sytnikov worked in the field of culture and the protection of intellectual rights, leading the administrative operations of one of the country's most influential human rights and cultural organizations.
PEN Ukraine is part of an international network of writers and journalists that is actively engaged in promoting Ukrainian culture globally and documenting war crimes. Sytnikov's decision to trade his civilian career for military service highlights the readiness of representatives from the cultural sector to defend the state with weapons in their hands.
The Omega Special Purpose Center is known for carrying out complex combat missions on the hottest sectors of the front. Fighters of this unit specialize in counter-terrorism operations, reconnaissance, and fire support.
Currently, Maksym Sytnikov's colleagues are expressing their support and gratitude for his choice. His example demonstrates that the full-scale war has affected all spheres of Ukrainian society, including the intellectual and cultural elite.
