Zelenskyy responds to proposals regarding cessation of strikes on Russian oil refineries
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has commented on the possibility of halting attacks on Russian oil refineries. This issue became a subject of discussion following statements by Donald Trump, who expressed concern regarding the impact of such strikes on global oil prices.
The Ukrainian leader emphasized that Ukraine has the right to use its own forces to defend its territory and infrastructure. According to Zelenskyy, strikes on facilities within Russian territory are a response to the enemy's constant attacks on the Ukrainian energy system, which lead to destruction and power outages for millions of citizens.
At the same time, the president noted that Ukraine is ready for dialogue if it helps change the situation on the front and stop the aggression. The main condition for any changes in the defense strategy is the cessation of Russian shelling of Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure facilities. Without security guarantees for Ukraine, such restrictions are not considered realistic.
International experts note that the issue of strikes on oil refineries remains a complex balance between military necessity and the geopolitical interests of partners. Currently, official Kyiv continues to insist that any decisions must be made with consideration for Ukraine's national interests and its right to self-defense.
The situation continues to evolve, and the global community is awaiting further steps from both sides. Ukraine remains open to discussions, however, the priority remains the protection of its own energy sector and ensuring the safety of the population.
