Possible elections in Ukraine: Zelensky on ceasefire conditions
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the possibility of holding elections in the country during martial law. According to the head of state, organizing the electoral process is possible only on the condition of a complete ceasefire by Russia for a period of at least 60 days.
Currently, martial law is in effect in Ukraine, which prohibits any elections. This is due to the security situation, the impossibility of ensuring voting for millions of refugees abroad and soldiers on the front lines, as well as the risks to the lives of voters at polling stations.
Zelensky emphasized that safe conditions and stability are necessary for holding a democratic vote. The proposal for a 60-day truce is being considered as a theoretical scenario that could create a "window of opportunity" for the political process, but at the moment, there are no real prerequisites for such a step on the part of the aggressor.
Ukraine's international partners have repeatedly emphasized that elections should only take place when circumstances allow. The priority for the Ukrainian authorities remains the protection of sovereignty and the safety of citizens, so the issue of elections remains a matter of debate for now and depends on the development of events on the battlefield.
