EU to provide Ukraine with a €90 billion loan for budget support
The European Union is preparing to provide Ukraine with large-scale financial assistance in the form of a €90 billion loan. These funds are aimed at supporting the Ukrainian budget and meeting the state's defense needs during 2026–2027.
European Commission representatives emphasize that this decision is part of a strategy for long-term support of Ukraine amidst the full-scale war. The funding will help the government consistently pay salaries and pensions and finance the security sector, despite difficult economic circumstances.
At the same time, Brussels notes that the allocated amount is not the final answer to all challenges. According to estimates by European experts, these €90 billion will cover only two-thirds of Ukraine's total needs for this two-year period.
This means that Ukraine will have to continue cooperating with other international partners and financial institutions to attract additional resources. Finding additional sources of funding remains an important task to ensure the country's stability in the future.
Thus, the aid from the EU will become the foundation for Ukraine's financial resilience, yet the international community continues to seek ways to fully meet the needs of the Ukrainian economy and army.
