Russian disinformation: how the enemy uses fake news against Ukraine

The SPRAVDI Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security has uncovered a new large-scale operation by Russian special services. Enemy propaganda spread a fake news story about alleged NABU searches of the head of the State Logistics Operator, Arsen Zhumadilov. To create an illusion of authenticity, the Russians forged the design of the well-known Ukrainian publication NV.

In the fabricated article, the perpetrators claimed that $140 million in cash was allegedly found during searches of the official. This fake was aimed at discrediting Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies and undermining trust in state defense procurement. The goal of the disinformation was to create a negative image of Ukraine on the international stage.

Experts note that the timing for this information attack was not chosen by accident. It coincided with the visit of a Ukrainian delegation to the United States. In this way, the enemy attempted to influence the negotiations and sow doubt among Western partners regarding the transparency of the use of financial aid.

This case confirms once again that Russia is actively using the tools of information warfare to weaken Ukraine. The spoofing of reputable media websites is becoming part of a strategy aimed at destabilizing society and international relations.

Specialists urge Ukrainians to be critical of information and to trust only official sources. Verifying news on reliable resources is the best defense against enemy propaganda and manipulation.
