PM Burnham's first grilling & upcoming budget speech
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has faced his first session of questioning in the House of Commons since taking office in July, pledging to restore national hope. Meanwhile, Finance Minister John Healey is scheduled to deliver a major speech next week, which will serve as a precursor to his first official budget announcement.
These political developments come amid growing scrutiny from financial markets regarding the government's approach to public spending and the national debt. While the administration sets its fiscal agenda, the UK government is also preparing to announce new measures concerning Israeli settlements in the coming weeks, a move that follows public petitions calling for sanctions.
In international affairs, the UK government reiterated at the UN General Assembly that Russia’s ongoing actions do not alter the sovereignty or borders of Ukraine. Domestically, the government has launched a new education programme aimed at bringing the history of the Bayeux Tapestry—a medieval embroidery depicting the Norman Conquest of England—to communities across the country.
