UK Businesses Struggle to Follow Internal Rules for Generative AI
A new report has revealed that while many companies in the United Kingdom are adopting generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), they are finding it difficult to manage how it is used. Although 70% of UK and Irish businesses have created official policies for their employees, very few are actually following them.
According to the data, only 12% of these organisations say that their current use of GenAI is fully in line with their internal rules. This gap between having a policy and following it creates potential risks for companies, especially as new legal requirements regarding technology and data safety are expected to be introduced soon.
Experts suggest that the rapid growth of AI tools makes it hard for businesses to keep up. Many employees are using these tools to help with daily tasks, but without proper oversight, companies may face problems with data security or copyright issues. The report highlights that businesses need to do more to ensure their staff understands and respects the rules that have been set.
As legal deadlines for technology compliance approach, many firms are now under pressure to improve their internal processes. Companies that fail to align their AI usage with their policies could face legal challenges or reputational damage in the near future.
For now, the focus for many UK businesses is on updating their training programs and monitoring how AI is integrated into the workplace. Bridging the gap between policy and practice will be a major priority for company leaders throughout the remainder of the year.
