The police are looking for this man after a phone call worth 4 million euros.
Police are hunting a suspect after a billionaire from North Rhine-Westphalia lost cash and valuables worth four million euros in a sophisticated phone scam. A composite sketch has now been released to help identify the man who collected the valuables.
According to investigators, the suspect is around 1.75 meters tall and speaks broken German. He reportedly wore a hoodie and reddish-brown corduroy trousers when receiving the items. Police also noted his very fine, almost flawless skin and an Eastern European appearance.
The fraud took place on February 3 and 4, when unknown callers used a so-called “shock phone call” method. They claimed the victim’s daughter had caused a deadly traffic accident involving a pregnant woman, who was allegedly the daughter of a Serbian diplomat.
To avoid legal consequences, the scammers demanded immediate payment in valuables instead of bank transfers. Two handovers took place, during which the victim gave away jewelry, watches, cash, and gold. Police are not disclosing exact locations or times due to the ongoing investigation.
The total loss is estimated at four million euros. Because of the unusually high amount, the criminal police have formed a special investigation team. Officers remain in close contact with the victim and his family and are actively pursuing several investigative leads.
