A fire in a Malvín building forces the evacuation of several residents
A fire affected an apartment building yesterday in the Malvín neighborhood of Montevideo. The incident occurred near the rambla, at the intersection with Concepción del Uruguay Street, and generated a large column of black smoke that could be seen from various points along the city's coast.
The National Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene to control the fire. According to initial reports, the fire started in one of the building's apartments. Firefighters worked intensely for several hours to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other nearby homes.
As a precautionary measure, authorities decided to evacuate several residents from the building and surrounding areas. The main objective was to ensure people's safety due to the density of the smoke and the risk of inhalation. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported during the emergency operation.
Traffic in the rambla area was affected for part of the day while emergency teams carried out their work. Many passersby and drivers stopped, surprised by the magnitude of the smoke coming from the windows of the affected building.
Currently, fire experts are investigating the causes that started the fire in the apartment. Once the building is declared safe, residents will be able to return to their homes. For now, the situation is completely under control.
