“Incredibly Sickening”: Couple Finds Mouse in Green Beans Bag
A couple from Rotterdam was left horrified after discovering a dead mouse inside a bag of frozen green beans purchased from Jumbo, raising concerns about food safety and quality control.
The incident came to light after the couple reported feeling “incredibly sick” upon finding the animal in a house-brand product. The green beans had been bought two weeks earlier from a Jumbo store in Capelle aan den IJssel.
A spokesperson for Jumbo confirmed the incident, describing it as an “exceptional” case and stating that such an occurrence had never been reported before. The company believes the mouse likely entered the batch during the harvesting process.
Following the discovery, Jumbo contacted its supplier, who carried out additional random quality checks. According to the supermarket chain, no further contamination was found in other products.
The couple reported the incident to the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). While the store offered an apology and a voucher upon return of the product, the customer expressed dissatisfaction, saying the issue was not taken seriously enough.
