Shocking videos documenting a violent brawl outside a school in Strasshof, Lower Austria, have spread on social media since Thursday, where a group of women and their husbands engaged in a mass fight that included exchanges of punches and kicks, and even the use of a baseball bat.
The incident that started as a dispute between the mothers of two third-grade students at the elementary school escalated in front of dozens of children and their parents. The police reported that six people were injured during the brawl and had to use pepper spray to control one of the participants.
The school administration sent an urgent message to parents explaining the dimensions of the incident, confirming that the police, the education directorate, and the municipality had been informed and that additional security measures were being taken, including increasing security presence on the day of certificate distribution. Indeed, students and their parents were met the next day with a heavy security presence, amidst an atmosphere filled with anxiety, despite the absence of those responsible for the altercation.
Political officials expressed their anger and dissatisfaction with the incident. The regional director of the VPNÖ party, Matthias Zauner, stated that what happened in front of Strasshof School is completely unacceptable. He added that the school should be a place of safety and trust, not a battleground for personal vendettas through violence, emphasizing that anyone showing up with a baseball bat in front of an educational institution has crossed all red lines, and there is no place for such behavior in society, and that protecting children and schools must be a top priority.
