Claim up to 335 euros in compensation for the increase in the electricity contract
About 300,000 customers of EVN in Austria are preparing to receive refunds ranging from 50 to 335 euros. The reason for these payments is legal settlements after illegal increases in electricity and gas prices during 2022.
According to the Verein für Konsumenteninformation (VKI), an agreement has been reached allowing these customers to receive compensation after the Supreme Court (OLG) ruled that the increases applied in September 2022 were illegal.
The compensations include several types of contracts at EVN such as: Optima Strom, Optima Eco, Optima Natur, Optima Eco Natur, Optima Gas, and Optima Biogas.
In order for the affected individuals to benefit from these amounts, they must register on the website www.vki.at/EVN2025 before July 31, 2025.
This decision comes at a time when the Austrian market is experiencing a noticeable increase in electricity costs after the end of what is known as the "Strompreisbremse" and the increase in network fees since the beginning of 2025, despite the recent decline in global energy prices, especially crude oil. However, inflation remains high in April, reaching 3.1% due to high energy costs compared to last year.
