Knife attack causes panic at the main train station after a family dispute turned violent
A knife attack caused panic at the main train station in Vienna on Monday afternoon when a 27-year-old German man injured his mother during a heated argument. Both parties sustained minor injuries, and the suspect was quickly restrained.
The incident occurred around 2:30 PM at the entrance area of the station, where two people who knew each other began to exchange loud arguments. The dispute escalated when the man pulled out a knife and stabbed the woman, prompting an immediate intervention from security personnel.
The police later confirmed that the victim is the suspect's mother, who is 52 years old. Witnesses reported that the man also injured himself during the confrontation. According to the local site oe24, initial assessments showed that both sustained relatively minor injuries.
During the investigation, reports indicated that the mother expressed suicidal thoughts. Due to suspicions of mental health issues, both were transferred to hospitals under the provisions of the Mental Health Act for necessary evaluation and treatment.
Authorities emphasized that there was no danger to the public at any time. The assailant was subdued within minutes by station security and police, allowing travel and shopping activity in the busy station to return to normal shortly thereafter.
