Massive Salary Hike Coming: Young Workers to Earn Closer to Adults
On Friday, the ministers agreed to raise the minimum wage for young people aged 16 to 20 in 2027, bringing the wage rate closer to the adult amount of 14.71 euros per hour.
This change means that those who are 16 years old will now earn 40% of the adult minimum wage per hour, up from 34.5%, while those who are 17 years old will earn 50% instead of 39.5%. Additionally, the minimum wage for those who are 20 years old will rise from 80% to 87.5% of the adult wage.
The proposal was originally developed by a previous administration, but the current Minister of Social Affairs, Hans Villbreriff, confirmed that the government will continue to implement it.
According to Hans Wilberfing, the goal of increasing wages is to encourage more young people to take part-time jobs. While employers may be concerned about rising costs, the government believes that higher wages will help companies attract more employees and alleviate the ongoing labor shortage.
