Venezuela reaches agreement with General Electric to restore the electrical system
Venezuela is launching plans to stabilize its power grid through an international agreement, while the implications of a recent military operation in Bolívar state are being analyzed. Additionally, the government reaffirms its stance before international courts and evaluates new air connections with Europe to promote tourism.
The Venezuelan government and the U.S. company General Electric have reached an agreement to work on the recovery of the national electrical system. Leancy Clemente, president of the Nuclear Society of Venezuela, described the measure as positive and necessary. Clemente explained that current service problems are not limited to power generation but also severely affect the transmission and distribution networks that deliver electricity to homes.
Regarding security issues, the recent military operation carried out by the United States in Bolívar state, which concluded on June 9, was analyzed. The operation resulted in the death of the leader of a large-scale criminal organization, known as a "megabanda." According to the analysis of specialist Raúl Baduel, this incursion represented a controlled territorial takeover to neutralize criminal groups in the region.
In the diplomatic sphere, Attorney General Arianny Seijo reaffirmed before the International Court of Justice (ICJ)—the principal judicial organ of the United Nations—that Venezuela does not recognize its authority to decide on national territorial disputes. Seijo stated that this position is not an act of rebellion but a defense of sovereignty based on the Geneva Agreement, a treaty that Venezuela considers a priority over any external judicial decision.
On the other hand, authorities from Venezuela and Italy held a technical meeting to evaluate the opening of a direct air route between both nations. This initiative seeks to reactivate the flow of travelers and boost the tourism sector between the two countries through a non-stop connection.
