Today's News: Law Proposed to Return Expropriated Assets in Venezuela
Today's summary highlights a legal proposal for the return of confiscated properties and the start of consultations to reform criminal justice in several states. Additionally, the agricultural sector is moving forward with the selection of the country's best coffees for an international event.
The Center for the Dissemination of Economic Knowledge for Freedom (Cedice) presented a draft bill seeking the restitution and reparation of assets that were expropriated, nationalized, or invaded by the State. The proposal outlines mechanisms to return these properties to their original owners or, alternatively, provide financial compensation for the loss of assets. This plan aims to address the situation of companies and lands that came under public control in previous years.
On the other hand, authorities established a national consultation for criminal justice reform in the states of Zulia and Lara. Civil and police representatives are participating in these meetings with the goal of collecting proposals to correct flaws in the judicial system. The aim is for legal changes to help streamline processes and improve legal certainty in the western regions of the country.
In the economic sphere, 51 coffee samples qualified for the national round of the fifth International Venezuelan Specialty Coffee Encounter (EICEV) 2026. The selected producers will present their beans from July 10 to 12 at the Simón Bolívar Park of the Generalísimo Francisco de Miranda Air Base in Caracas. This event seeks to promote the quality of local coffee to national and international experts.
