The armed forces are conducting an investigation with soldiers who may be linked to the far right.
The Dutch military intelligence service, MIVD, has opened several investigations into individuals suspected of links to far-right groups in recent years, according to a report by NU.nl on Monday.
The national coordinator for security and counterterrorism (NCTV) confirmed in his latest report that right-wing extremism within the military remains an ongoing issue. MIVD also confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
A military spokesperson refused to specify the number of individuals being investigated or monitored, but emphasized that all indicators of extremism are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.
MIVD began monitoring right-wing extremism within the armed forces in 2020, following the revelation in Germany of an extremist network within an elite military unit.
Right-wing extremism is also a problem within the Dutch police. In 2023, NRC reported that on-duty officers filed dozens of complaints over a six-month period regarding racist or discriminatory behavior by their colleagues.
