Seizure of 90 illegal firearms in Austria.
Austrian authorities managed to seize 90 firearms and more than 10,000 rounds of ammunition during a wide-ranging security operation, along with the confiscation of Nazi memorabilia. The operation resulted in charges being brought against several individuals without their arrest.
The operation, which was carried out in late February, was led by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counterterrorism (DSN) in cooperation with anti-extremism units in several states, and included searches at 14 locations with the participation of the special forces unit "Cobra." Investigations had begun months earlier after illegal weapons were seized in Lower Austria last year, leading investigators to other suspects in several areas.
Interior Minister Gerhard Karner confirmed that the authorities will continue their strict approach to combating illegal arms trafficking, while Justice Minister Anna Sporer praised the efforts made to combat extremism and organized crime. The police reported that illegal arms trade poses a serious security threat, as criminals and terrorists seek to purchase weapons illegally, necessitating international cooperation to combat this phenomenon. Investigations are still ongoing, as authorities work to analyze the evidence collected.
