Prison sentences or community service for young ISIS members who incite terrorism via TikTok

The juvenile court in Rotterdam has convicted five minors for involvement with the Islamic State (ISIS) and for inciting terrorist acts via TikTok. Two were sentenced to juvenile detention, while three received partially suspended community service orders.

The harshest sentence was handed to a seventeen-year-old who pledged allegiance to ISIS, spread propaganda online, discussed committing an attack, asked about firearms, and wrote a suicide note to his mother. He received 431 days in juvenile detention, 150 suspended, along with a two-year social media ban.

Another seventeen-year-old, convicted of ISIS membership and sedition, repeatedly posted extremist videos capable of inspiring terrorist offenses. He was sentenced to 159 days in juvenile detention, 100 suspended, and received a social media ban.

Two fifteen-year-olds and another seventeen-year-old posted nine videos deemed to incite terrorism. They were treated as accomplices and received partially suspended community service sentences ranging from 100 to 130 hours.

While the suspects were also accused of preparing attacks, they were acquitted of those charges. Two others were fully acquitted, with the court noting that although their videos were questionable, they did not constitute incitement to terrorist crimes.
