Dutch authorities discovered over 1,100 kilograms of illegal fireworks in a house on Babelaan Street in Wijdewormer, leading to the evacuation of more than twenty neighboring homes as a safety precaution. The 43-year-old resident has been arrested and remains in custody.
The police confirmed the severe danger posed by this large stockpile. Even a small spark was enough to cause a catastrophic explosion threatening the entire neighborhood.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called to the site to safely remove the fireworks. Their swift interventions ensured that no injuries occurred during the operation.
Residents were allowed to return to their homes before midnight, and authorities confirmed that the area has been fully secured after the removal of explosives.
