After a fatal accident in Heilbronn: A 21-year-old driver of a Volkswagen faces deportation to Turkey
The 21-year-old man responsible for the fatal incident in Heilbronn may face deportation to Turkey after the Stuttgart Regional Council issued an official order for his deportation following his conviction for murder earlier this year.
The tragic incident occurred in February 2023, when a young man, then 20 years old, was driving his BMW at a speed of nearly 100 kilometers per hour on Wollhausstrasse, in an area where the speed limit is 40 kilometers per hour. His car collided with a family Mercedes, resulting in the immediate death of a 42-year-old man and serious injuries to his wife, while their two children in the back seat sustained varying injuries.
In April 2024, the Heilbronn Regional Court issued a ruling convicting him of murder and sentenced him to nine years in prison under juvenile criminal law. Now, the German authorities have decided that he should be deported after serving his sentence, considering that his stay in Germany poses a threat to public safety and order.
According to German law, a deportation order requires the foreigner to leave the country, also leading to the cancellation of the residence permit, and may also include a ban on returning to Germany in the future. The accused has a period of one month to file an appeal, and if they do not, the decision becomes final and the deportation is officially executed.
This decision has once again sparked controversy over reckless driving and how the German judiciary deals with crimes committed by foreigners. With the end of the appeal period, the fate of the 21-year-old young man will be determined — serving his sentence in prison, followed by his deportation to Turkey.
